The principles of landscape, are culturally determined. Of the verdant Sussex landscapes of gnarled oaks, the desert or sea are equally attractive. To say that we respond to Constable like landscapes because we are evolutionarily disposed to the green and verdant, is to ignore cultural determinism. Worse we abandon all attempts to explore new paths through thickets of inherited pattern.
