The instaneity of the digital camera leads to a comparison with video playback. The material quality (patina) of silver photography and film, are quite distinct from the those of video and digital photographs. Silver photographic negatives have a grain, they are also, usually physically abraded by use. The digital file is in contrast a flat mesh, of such fineness as to appear free of noise until you reach the pixel level.
