John's Ear

<|| To Beginning || <= Yesterday ::::: Tomorrow =>

Decontextualise anything and it becomes interesting. Our learned familiarity with the order of the world allows the unremarkable to pass our attention by. Unnoticed it leaves us undisturbed, it is only the exceptional the literally "remarkable" which attracts our attention.

The cropping of an image offers this disruptive possibility, the frame magnified - rarely are we this close.

Slipping the camera into my bag this morning I felt imposed upon, when nothing during the day drew me to a serious focus, i thought i would have to photograph the meatballs and rice i had made for supper. Then for no explicable reason I decide upon the ear of one of my guests, who had not yet arrived and whose ears are to the best of my knowledge unremarkable.
