Geographically Second Life is a collection of islands otherwise known as 'sims' or simulated environments hosted worldwide on eight thousand servers.

Residents move from sim to sim by teleporting using island coordinates otherwise known as a SLURL, which are similar to a web page URL (Uniform Resource Locator).
